Series of New Studies Aim to Raise Awareness of Drug Abuse in Pregnancy presented at Teratology Society Symposium

A series of new studies aimed to raise awareness of drug abuse in pregnancy was presented at the combined annual meetings of the Teratology Society and Developmental Neurotoxicology Society at the Grand Hyatt San Antonio, June 25-29, 2016. 

Dr. Rocky Tuan served as Editor on a special issue of Birth Defects Research Part C: Embryo Today (see the Overview, doi: 10.1002/bdrc.21133). This special issue featured a series of new research articles on “Prenatal Substance Abuse and Developmental Disorders,” highlighting the latest, cutting-edge science on methamphetamine, alcohol, nicotine and cocaine exposure during pregnancy and their effects on fetal and neurobehavioral development.  

Dr. Tuan is a Distinguished Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and the Director of the Cellular and Molecular Engineering Lab. He is also the Executive Vice Chairman for Orthopaedic Research and serves as the Arthur J. Rooney, Sr. Chair Professor in Sports Medicine. He is the Associate Director of the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine and the Director for the Center for Military Research. He also holds a secondary appointment as a Professor within the Department of Bioengineering.
